What is Social Media Day, and why should you care?

If you’re reading this then in some way you’ve been affected by social media or social media management. Whether it’s Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, Instagram, or any of the other platforms, we can undeniably state that social media has changed the world we live in. Many of us can tell stories to our children about the days before DVD’s (gasp!), or the by-gone era of having to stop the car at a payphone (oh, the horror!), but these stories will likely seem quaint and unbelievable. That’s because a world in which we cannot connect with others across the globe, instantaneously, is foreign and surreal. The basis of all interactions – production, consumption, and social fulfillment will never be the same. But you know this already, though you might take it for granted.

In 2010, Mashable, one of the leaders in web technology news and social media trends, declared the first Social Media Day to “recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.” This year, for the 3rd consecutive year, communities across the globe are gathering for parties and discussion panels, conferences and demonstrations of our changed world. With the world changing this rapidly in front of our eyes, how could you not be a part of it? At the very least, in order to function as a responsible citizen, you must have some knowledge of social media trends and the effect they have on your community because they most certainly do!

To this end, we invite you to celebrate this day with us and thousands of others all over the world. On June 30th, 2012, a Fort Bend County group lovingly called “Fort Bend Fans and Fanatics,” will be meeting at a local restaurant for a party. Those involved with social media management in the Sugar Land,TxRichmond, Tx and surrounding areas will be there, but so will others who just love what social media does. It’s a party; a party with door prizes and food and fun. There’s no cost, and no obligation, but there’s a world of value that social media can bring to our lives, so why not celebrate this together in a fun atmosphere? All we ask is that you open your invitation and RSVP to let us know you’ll be there!

Did we mention door prizes? Thanks to our sponsors, we will have some great prizes to give away to party attendees, too. Below is a list of our group’s Sponsors, and we encourage you to take a look at the variety of ways that they use social media, too. Please join us! How far could we go together to create a better connected world?
